Moisture Camera
The Moisture Camera uses Far
Infra-Red absorption technology in extremely narrow bandwidths (< 20 nm) from multiple wave
lengths to determine moisture content in the surface of many different types of materials. Although the MC- Series Moisture Control is capable of accepting millions of curves as
standard, only one curve for each type of pure raw material form is needed. The additions of
color additives will not require new curves as the MCC is not affected by color. One curve
for each type of raw material is sufficient for accurate moisture control.
The Camera aperture and light source are kept dust free by purging the collimating tube and light
source cavity with filtered air. The filtered air supply is also monitored by the main control to
insure that the purge air is being delivered to the camera.
What will effect the readings?
- Sun light?
- No. The Camera can only see chopped light at 200 Hz +/- 50 Hz. However, a fan
in the sealing where sun light can be chopped could spell disaster at certain times of the year
or day if the sun light causes a direct hit on the clay under the camera.
- Humidity?
- Additives?
- Most Likely Not as metal oxides do not absorb @ these wave lengths.
- Changes in Material Height?
- Yes @ .05% for every inch off Normal height – but – This
is corrected in the software.
- Temperature Changes?
- NO –
The detectors are always kept at some temperature between 0 to 18
°C and the camera electronics are maintained at 105
°C by temperature control
circuits inside the camera.
- Bulb Life?
- No, however, it will burn out eventually (about 1 - 2 years). The light intensity is
continually adjusted for the type of clay it’s looking at. It will brighten for wetter clay and dim
for dryer clay and like wise it will be brighter for darker clays.
- Moisture Contamination Inside the Camera?
- Yes, however the Camera is sealed
completely and comes installed with a desiccant pack which can absorb 13 ml of water if a leak
does form. This pack needs be serviced once per year. The Control will advise you when this
needs to be done.
- Particle Size?
- No. The light Source will brighten for larger or less reflective Particle sizes.
- Camera Life?
- No, but a simple lab check can be done to check for drift. The software can
accept offsets for drift.
- Frozen Material?
- Yes, Frozen Water in the Clay reads a lower percentage than normal and
software needs to be purchased to correct for this phenomena.
- Dust?
- No, however, when the Control asks you to service the air purge filters, please do it. An
Air Purge Pump with filters and integral air flow sensor is supplied as standard. Never,
Never Turn Off the Air Purge System… It must Run 24/7
